Mekong Basin
MUS work in the Mekong basin work is mostly being carried out in north-east of Thailand, which is a part of Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The work started with the identification of the existing multiple water use systems in farmer communities, their benefits and economic impacts, based on the national development paradigm. The work focuses on both up-scaling and out-scaling of multiple water use practices in north-east Thailand. The key approaches include learning alliance development and managing knowledge on sustainable water resource management at farm and household scales. The implementation includes application of participatory action research methodologies with Local Wisdom Networks, Universities, Government and Non-government Organizations. Efforts are going on- at the moment- to upscale multiple water use system at the national policy level, through gradual changes in government plans, budgeting and practices.
